I discovered this region of
the world when I responded to an ad seeking an "untamed physicist" to
work in the San Juan Islands. Living in the Caribbean sounded really good
to me. My geography may have been faulty but my intuition was not.
I took the job. I have lived on Orcas Island for 37 years
now. I love my life here and am happy that my children grew up here.
My daughter Kristin who now works for the University of Washington graduated from Orcas High School--she loves to hike and enjoys kayaking. My
son Cameron learned to stand holding onto the tiller of our sailboat. He is now participating in the University of Washington's Physicians Assistant program. When back on island, he is an EMT and sometimes captains on a local whale watch boat.
For recreation I sail, ski, and fish. I'm a licensed pilot
and certified scuba diver. Until recently, I played competitive volleyball on a regular basis
with Orcas Island friends. Other hobbies include woodworking,
construction and photography.
My goal for 2018: Finish restoring my MG-TF.
My wife Nanae and I designed and built a house in Deer Harbor after living in a 600 square feet cabin for several years, one of my joys is the ability to cook for family and friends in a "proper" kitchen.
Nanae
teases that I can almost always be found at the local hardware store before it
closes and at the local supermarket on Wednesdays checking out the list of sale items.
If you
see me at either of these places, come up and say hello. I look forward
to meeting and talking to more of my friends and neighbors about the importance of creating a hospital district and the part I want to play at its inception.
